چکیده

Background Physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep are independently associated with cognition in older adults. These time-use behaviours not independent, rather, co-dependent parts of the 24-hour day. As such, spending more time one leaves less for others. The balance three day (or composition) should be considered to inform movement guidelines dementia risk reduction populations. Using a compositional data analysis approach, we investigated associations between use sample healthy Method 347 participants (age 60-70 years; 68% female) took part this study. 7 days (time spent sleep, behaviour, light moderate-vigorous physical activity) were captured using accelerometry. Cognition was measured Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination III (global cognition) computerized CANTAB tests measuring memory, executive function, fluid reasoning processing speed. outcomes regressed on isometric log ratios (ilrs) compositions, while adjusting age sex demographics, explore potential behaviours. Associations between Mobility, Cognition, and Brain Structure in Healthy Older Adults

Mobility limitations lead to a cascade of adverse events in old age, yet the neural and cognitive correlates of mobility performance in older adults remain poorly understood. In a sample of 387 adults (mean age 69.0 ± 5.1 years), we tested the relationship between mobility measures, cognitive assessments, and MRI markers of brain structure. Mobility was assessed in 2007-2009, using gait, balanc...

Causal associations between depression symptoms and cognition in a community-based cohort of older adults.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the temporal association between depression symptoms and cognitive function in older adults over a 4-year period. METHODS Using a longitudinal, cross-lagged, population-based design, we studied depression symptoms and cognitive domains (including processing speed, verbal fluency, face and word recognition, episodic memory, and simple and choice reaction time) in 896 comm...

How Interventions Might Improve Cognition in Healthy Older Adults

Many of the cognitive declines in healthy aging are moderated by experience, suggesting that interventions may be beneficial. Goals for aging outcomes include improving performance on untrained tasks, remediating observed cognitive declines, and ensuring preservation of functional ability. This selective review evaluates current progress towards these goals. Most research focuses on untrained t...
